Description

With age and ability-driven instruction, students will learn original dances and choreography in the style of musicals throughout Broadway history, while learning about the choreographers and shows they are from. Additionally, students will learn dance etiquette, definitions, and skills to strengthen their dance auditions for theatre. Perfect for the beginner and advanced dancer, alike. Instruction will be age-appropriate and confidence- building!

Improvisation

Grades: 5 – 10

Description

Let your performer discover the joys of improv by utilizing their own innate sense of play, curiosity and authenticity. Through coaching, exercises, creative games and short-form scenes, students will learn how to be more spontaneous, trusting and cooperative.  These skills will not only help your performer as an actor but also at school in learning how to connect with people socially.  This class is all about jumping in, having fun, playing hard, working together and finding your voice.

Invest in more learning and receive a 10% discount on additional classes.  On Saturdays, consider also taking Creative Acting II from 11:30-1:00 pm.

Creative Acting II

Grades: 5 – 7

Description

Time to take improvisation and acting to the next level.  Using improv games and scripted scene work, students will discover their potential as an actor through the innovative techniques of Meisner, Adler and Stanislavski.  Students learn to find their objective in a scene, how to build a character, as well as how to analyze a script.  Concludes with a showcased scene.

It’s time to shine as a soloist, and glisten as a group. In the West Chester Studio Singers performers develop healthy singing habits and discover how to interpret a song.

Every performer receives individual vocal and acting instruction with our Musical Director, as well as with Therese Walden-Murphy.  All classes and concerts will be accompanied by our Musical Director.

Playing Shakespeare

Grades: 6 – 12

Description

Discover the fun side of Shakespeare, also known as The Bard.  Discover how Shakespeare made audiences laugh. We will take Shakespeare scenes, break them down so you understand them and put the scene “on its  feet”.  Students learn to find their objectives in a scene, how to build a Shakespeare character, as well as analyze the scene.  Concludes with a Scene Showcase.

Auditions: Winter Session: Dec 8 from 2-6:00 pm. Performers should prepare one song which highlights their vocal strength and ability to interpret a song. An accompanist will be provided. Please bring sheet music in your desired key.

Description

Want more than the class environment?  In this class performers will create a cabaret style show and performed it at various locations in and around West Chester.  The Uptown Singers is designed to continue strengthening those performers who have been working on their voice and song interpretation.  All performers in the group will sing solo’s, duets, and group numbers as well as have a part in creating the show.
