Description

Let your performer discover the joys of improv by utilizing their own innate sense of play, curiosity and authenticity. Through coaching, exercises, creative games and short-form scenes, students will learn how to be more spontaneous, trusting and cooperative.  These skills will not only help your performer as an actor but also at school in learning how to connect with people socially.  This class is all about jumping in, having fun, playing hard, working together and finding your voice.

Teen Acting

Description

Teen Acting is setting the stage for solid professional acting habits. We start with proper warm-ups, get on our feet with theater games and improv, delve into script analysis and scene preparation, and work to get in tune with our instincts which brings out the truthfulness of acting, all while having tons of FUN in the process.

Every performer is different! We teach various acting techniques to find which one resonates with each actor.  While the primary technique is Meisner Technique, other influences include: Stella Adler, Viola Spolin, Terry Schreiber, The Barrow Group and Stanislavski. Familiar with this scene?  Performers who have taken “Teen Acting” twice will have the option of working on a Shakespeare or Chekhov scene.

It’s time to shine as a soloist, and glisten as a group. In the West Chester Studio Singers performers develop healthy singing habits and discover how to interpret a song.

Every performer receives individual vocal and acting instruction with our Musical Director, as well as with Therese Walden-Murphy.  All classes and concerts will be accompanied by our Musical Director.

Playing Shakespeare

Description

Discover the fun side of Shakespeare, also known as The Bard.  Discover how Shakespeare made audiences laugh. We will take Shakespeare scenes, break them down so you understand them and put the scene “on its  feet”.  Students learn to find their objectives in a scene, how to build a Shakespeare character, as well as analyze the scene.  Concludes with a Scene Showcase.

Professional Youth Program

Grades: 6 – 12

Cost: $500

Winter: Mondays,  Jan. 7 – Mar. 11, 4:30 – 7:00 pm, plus two workshops on Sundays Jan 27 & Feb 24 from 1:00-3:00 pm.

Auditions: Winter Session: December 8 from 2-6:00 pm. Performers should prepare a 1-2 minute monologue which they can connect to.

Description

Is your performer thinking of becoming a professional performer?  If so, our Professional Youth Program is the perfect place for them.  Discover what the industry is like, how to get an agent, meet casting directors, and how to get a hired with or without an agent.  Work with Professional Actors to develop Acting for the Camera Techniques, Improvisation Skills, and Monologues to audition with.

Many of our Professional Youth Program alumni are working with agents and are performing in exciting shows, commercials and films!

Uptown Singers

Description

Want more than the class environment?  Performers in this class will create a cabaret style show and then performed it at various locations in and around West Chester.  The Uptown Singers is designed to continue strengthening those performers who have been working on their voice and song interpretation abilities.  All performers in the group will sing solo’s, duets, and group numbers as well as have a part in the creating the show.

Description

Musical Theatre Dance is a comprehensive study of the many genres of dance in the Musical Theatre canon. From Oklahoma! to Hamilton, this class is sure to bring a wealth of history, basic dance knowledge, and confidence to each student. With age and ability-driven instruction, students will learn original dances and choreography in the style of musicals throughout Broadway history, while learning about the choreographers and shows they are from. Additionally, students will learn dance etiquette, definitions, and skills to strengthen their dance auditions for theatre. Perfect for the beginner and advanced dancer, alike. Instruction will be age-appropriate and confidence- building!

Foundations of Voice Acting

In this voiceover workshop we’ll cover the world of voiceovers from commercials, to narrations, to audio books. You’ll discover your voice and find out which style is the right one for you. Through lecture, critique and lots of practice you’ll refine timing, inflection, articulation and emotional techniques. Learn where to find work or an agent, how to prepare and record your professional demo, and understanding what is needed for a functional home studio. Enjoy this fun class taught by a 20-year industry professional to lay the foundation and get your voiceover career headed in the right direction.
